a man is placed upon the steps, and a baby cries
high above you can hear the church bells start to ring
and as the heaviness, oh the heaviness
the body settles in
somewhere you can hear a mother sing
then it's one foot then the other
as you step out on the road
how much weight? how much?
then it's how long? and how far?
and how many times, oh before it's too late?
calling all angels
calling all angels
walk me through this one
don't leave me alone
calling all angels
calling all angels
we're tryin' and we're hopin'
and we're not sure how...
and every day you gaze upon the sunset
with such love and intensity
why it's...it's almost as if
if you could only crack the code
then you'd finally understand what this all means
but if you could...do you think you would
trade in all the pain and suffering?
ah, but then you'd miss
the beauty of the light upon this earth
and the sweetness of the leaving
calling all angels
calling all angels
walk me through this one
don't leave me alone
callin' all angels
callin' all angels
we're tryin'
we're hopin'
we're hurtin'
we're lovin'
we're cryin'
we're callin'
'cause we're not sure how this goes
high above you can hear the church bells start to ring
and as the heaviness, oh the heaviness
the body settles in
somewhere you can hear a mother sing
then it's one foot then the other
as you step out on the road
how much weight? how much?
then it's how long? and how far?
and how many times, oh before it's too late?
calling all angels
calling all angels
walk me through this one
don't leave me alone
calling all angels
calling all angels
we're tryin' and we're hopin'
and we're not sure how...
and every day you gaze upon the sunset
with such love and intensity
why it's...it's almost as if
if you could only crack the code

"Calling All Angels" by Jane Siberry
To my dearest love Chuck,
My heart is always with you. Today I revere as sacred for it marks the end of your journey on this earth. My greatest hope is that you are soaring with the angels. Honey - I miss you more than words could ever strive to express.
I love you eternally ~ Jeannette
As I make my way through the memories that are forever etched onto this day, I also remember the flood of love that surrounded me. From my last conversation with Chuck & his urgent insistence that I know he loves me more than anything, to the miracle of feeling his bliss as his soul passed over, to my family on the line helping me through the minutes until paramedics arrived, to E our dear friend who sat & cried with me through all the business of handling a body, to B & G my lovely friend-sisters that arrived shortly after, G my chauffeur & rock as I broke the news, B & E gathering our friends and whole-heartily opening their home to me, all the calls, dozens of scurried travel plans to reach me ASAP, hugs, tears, guided steps, days taken off, food & alcohol gently offered, donations, cards, prayers... all extraordinarily beautiful acts of love. There are thousands of other acts, large & small, since that day that have helped me reach survival at two years & counting.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank all of you - my family & friend-family, friends, co-workers, fellow grief travelers, counselors and kind strangers that boldly, subtly or silently eased my journey. My love and thanks goes out to you all.
J:
I have been thinking about you today. Looking forward to the walk tomorrow.
Love,
R
