Hi all Magnuson P-patch gardeners,
As the regular garden season closes, just a few items for your attention:
1) The P-Patch water has now been turned off at the meter and faucets drained (all 20 of them!). If you need water you will need to take a watering can into the Brig for water or bring it from home.
2) Winterizing your plots is to be completed by the weekend following October 31st. By that date your plot must be weeded, summer crops chopped down and the plot either planted with winter crops, planted with cover crops, or covered with leaves, straw or burlap or in some combination. Anyone with a contact for burlap sacks should try and get extra to put in the tool shed or share with neighbors.
3) Anyone have a pickup truck or SUV? There are leaves set aside in garbage cans for us up at Assumption School ready for pickup. Please email me: nlpcpa@comcast.net if you can do this so I can give you directions. Marty DeLong transported the first batch but she is suffering from a lingering cold and would like some help.
4) Anyone still short of volunteer hours? Weeding, mulching and chipping the path of your choice is always welcomed. The work party today, the numbers small but mighty, cleared a very messy border near plot #318 for one of our newest gardeners Aliza. Sorry I did not get some before and after pictures.
5) Enzo Guarda’s daughter Stefania is expecting a baby and is giving up her garden plot #528. Enzo would like to change his plots to #528 and #529 and give up #530A and 530B. Anyone interested before we turn it in to Kenya for reassignment? Contact Enzo at guardas@gmail.com for a walk through.
6) Likewise the McGoodwin’s daughter has decided not to take their extra plot and so they are looking for a new neighbor. Contact Mike or Becky at mcm@mcgoodwin.net .
Under a separate email you have been invited to attend the next Magnuson Community Garden board meeting which you might want to attend for two reasons. The first of course is to check out what they do and consider becoming a board member. Second, the $10,000 award from the BECU People Helping People Fund will be discussed and decisions made on how it is to be spent.
Wasn’t it a fabulous year to be a P-Patcher!! See you in the spring at our annual meeting, tentatively scheduled for the equinox on March 21, 2014
